POLSKY, LECINSKY / ПОЛЬСКИЙ, ЛЕСИНСКИЙ (Киев)

#1 guyfl » 06 сен 2018, 05:41

Greetings,

This is an inquiry about my grandmother's parents from Kiev.
The names:
Father: Berel, son of Nachman. Last name: Polsky. Berel's English name was Barnet.
Mother: Rivka, maiden name Lecinsky. (Probably pronounced лечински). Rivka was known in America as Becky.

They came to Boston, USA, then they moved to Philadelphia.
According to the United States census in 1940, he was 66 and she was 65, so they were born approximately 1874 and 1875, respectively.
I found another census (1920) that has them as the same age (40), which means they were born in 1880 (!).
The image files are too large to attach.
This last census says that he immigrated in 1908 and she in 1911.
Their children were Philip, Jacob, and Ruth. Ruth was my grandmother.

If anyone has any further information about the Polsky and Lecinsky families, or where you suggest looking, please let me know. Feel free to add to your database.

Thank you!

Kiev, as a place of residence in Russia, defined in the 1920 census. I cannot find the ship protocol for Rivka Polsky and her children Philip and Jacob, emigrated in 1911.
Can it be, that they has another family name in Russia? Like YanPolsky, ZlatoPolsky, AntoPolsky... then they shorten the family name in the US?
Can You find the birth certificate of your grandmother? She was born in about 1913, about a year after Rebecca came US. Maybe it contain another family names of her parents? Where was she born? In Boston?

Thank you for the interesting link. Just tried it with broad (not specific) criteria, and it did not return these individuals.
But a good lead ... I might try other avenues.

I have my grandmother's birth certificate.

Ruth Ida Polsky. (We never knew her middle name till I found this.)
March 3. I don't have the year on the image I have, but I could look it up.
Boston
Parents: Barnet & Rebecca (Lecinsky) Polsky
Father a tailor, place of birth "Russia", but on the immigration record it specifies Kiev.
-----
Update:
I checked FamilySearch (Mormons). It seems he may have come through New York:
Name: Barnett Polsky
Event Type: Naturalization
Event Date: 1923
Event Place: New York, New York, United States
Volume: Declaration of intention index 1912-1924 Papace, Alexandro-Pongracz, Steven

Unfortunately, no online images.

This is correct.
Kiev mean Kiev Guberniya.
And before Russian revolution Kiev Gubernia
was part of Russian Empire.

POLSKY, LECINSKY / ПОЛЬСКИЙ, ЛЕСИНСКИЙ (КИЕВ)

I received 10 PDF files comprising the Zaslav births and deaths recorded in the Vinnitsa archives.
They are in Hebrew and Russian. I read Hebrew, but I am poor at reading cursive Russian.
Even knowing Hebrew, it takes a long time to read through, and I may miss something on the Russian side of the book.
I am looking for particular great grandparents.
Any advice? What would I expect to pay a researcher to look for names I provide? Thank you,
Guy L.
